Advent Activity Calendar

This year I’ve made an advent activity calendar for Lily. I searched pintrest for ideas and decided to go with a basic envelopes on clothes pins theme.

Advent Calendar
Only the first row is full so far but I have a list of 30+ ideas and I’m sure I’ll find more as the month goes on.

I looked for activities that use items I already have in my house, are environmentally friendly, and use some small supplies that I can put in the envelope for her to open. Some of the activities I’ve prepared so far are a Gingerbread Felt Board activity, Cookie Cutters for playdoh and making healthy raw gingerbread men, Felt Mitten game, Home Made Glitter for making Toilet Paper Roll Ornaments, Toilet Paper Roll Reindeer (going to try to get her to help me glue them together but mostly I just think she’ll enjoy playing with them!) and Pipe Cleaner Borax Snowflakes.

A lot of my activity ideas came from pinterest but a lot of the advent activity lists I found were mostly things we had already done in November! It’s been so nice to be able to get excited for Christmas early this year since finding a great potted tree. I wanted one last year but there’s no where to get them in town. So when we had to go to the city to have our car fixed I took advantage. I’ve had live trees all my life, usually cut by my dad from under the hydro lines (they’ll be cut down eventually anyway), so by the 1st of December I am normally getting anxious to decorate a tree and of course it’s still too soon for a cut tree. But this year we had most of our decorating done by mid-November.
